Teaching Certificate Awarded to Malta Chen Taijiquan Association

The International Taijiquan Kungfu Association has awarded an instructor’s certificate to Richard Galea Debono and Conrad Laus, President and Technical Director respectively, of the Malta Wushu Association, and the Malta Chen Taijiquan Association. The ITKA teaches the Chen Family Style of Taijiquan (taichi ch’uan)and runs various schools in Italy as well as schools in Spain and one in Malta.

The two candidates were examined for skill and teaching ability in Qigong (Chi Kung) and in the various aspects of the classic form known as LaoJia (Old Structure) which is a form consisting of 74 dynamic movements to be carried out in perfect posture, balance and accuracy of movement, while respecting the fundamental Taijiquan principles of flowing movement based on proper grounding. The form is performed slowly but is punctuated with sudden releases of energy, high and low kicks, and whirling movements.

The two were also examined in the area of teaching basic Taijiquan combat techniques to beginners and advanced students.

Also known as a “healing martial art” Taijiquan is a unique way of balancing mind, body and spirit.
